Product, routing and work order

Bill of materials, work orders, operations and assignments. Routings belong to the work order, not to the part.

Production is managed in three layers: the work order says what will be produced, the operation which steps are done in which sequence, and the assignment which machine and operator make how many pieces.

In most systems the routing is fixed to the part. In TIQERP the routing belongs to the work order: you enter the operations for each job and can copy them from a previous work order for repeat parts, so the same part can be produced on different machines in a different sequence.

An operation can be split across several machines, for example 120 pieces on one machine and 80 on another. Outsourced operations are part of the routing as well, with material issue, delivery to the supplier and return inspection tracked on the same work order. The drawing revision in use is fixed to the work order, and open work orders are flagged when that revision changes.
