Costing and finance

What a part really costs and which job makes money. This is not accounting: invoices and balances stay in your accounting software.

This module is not accounting: invoices, balances and collections stay in your accounting software. The question here is what a part really costs and which job makes money.

Cost consists of the weighted average cost of material issued to the work order, actual machine time multiplied by the machine hourly rate, operator time multiplied by the labour rate, outsourced process and external service costs, the cost of scrapped material and any rework after a nonconformity. Scrap and rework are shown separately, because seeing where the loss comes from matters more than the total.

One operator can run two machines at the same time. Machine cost is calculated from raw duration while labour is calculated from shared duration; without that distinction labour would be counted twice. If you do not know a machine hourly rate, the helper divides depreciation, energy, maintenance and rent share by the planned annual running hours. Every work order shows planned and actual cost side by side, and the difference feeds back into quoting.
